Think! Education

Activity 1: Introducing the theme

10 minutes

  1. Ask the children what a road is and what traffic is. What are roads for? Where can traffic be found? How does traffic look, sound, feel and smell?
  2. Play the traffic sounds supplied on this website, and ask children to identify each sound.
  3. Show the A3 colour poster of a busy street scene to the children and talk about the roads and traffic it depicts. Children can identify the different roads in the picture and the different vehicles on them. Discuss why the people in the picture walk on the pavement. This will lead on to the message that traffic can be dangerous.
  4. Emphasise that traffic can’t hurt us if we are careful near it and stay safe by holding an adult’s hand.
