Do you know how to cross a road safely? Letís find out!

Question
Is it safer to cross on where there is a bend or hill, or where there is a straight, flat piece of road?

Answer:
Stand just behind the kerb where you can see the road and where drivers can see you. Donít stand too close to the road.

Question:
Should you look and listen for traffic, or just stare straight ahead?

Answer:
Look both ways and listen for traffic before you start to cross the road and while you are crossing. Sometimes you can hear cars coming before you see them. If youíre wearing a hood, it can be more difficult to see and hear traffic.

Question:
Should you wait until there is no traffic coming before you cross the road?

Answer:
Yes. Check there is no traffic is coming. Even if it looks far away, it may be travelling fast and reach you sooner than you think.

Never run across the road. You need to walk straight across and to keep looking and listening for traffic.
